This channel is starting to simp for the right. I enjoyed this video the first time I saw it, she raises a good argument. Seeing it here, it just seems like part of the welcome mat for extreme right wing views. Sadly, talking to people in the comments of some previous videos has only reinforced that belief.

@Jonathan Esayias Berhe you don't have to wonder you can read. Don't see why I need to comb through hundreds of comments to summarise viewpoints that I've expressed in detail. I especially don't get why people expect me to continue doing it when I've done it in the exact thread at least 3 times already. Sounds like people are too lazy to actually research their viewpoint or those of the opposition. Much easy to not read at all and just make inane, passive aggressive comments to confirm their bias, right? As someone who's I the process of doing exactly that can you confirm whym

Life is try and error. Right. Everyone develops, everyone moves on, everyone draws lessons from their past. The mistakes you made, what you experienced. We should all try to develop positively. Often walking the stony road, not the easy one. However, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I’m so confused while reading the comments that suggest this woman’s thoughts are somehow right leaning. What did she say that is so right of center that it caught the attention of anyone? I heard a lot of common sense put into thoughtful words...nothing more. She seems, kind, intelligent, warm...I heard nothing overtly political...I just don’t get it...why is anything she said even consider a political stance? It didn’t seem that way at all to me.

Diction can be important, but intent is always more important. we should learn to step outside of our ego and try to understand the message, regardless of the messenger or their poor choices of words. language is malleable and open to interpretation and we dont all have the same skill level as wordsmiths.

The problem is also that people desperatly look for highly moral figures like saints. They want to believe blindly on someone without asking themselves if their view of morality is global or subjective. To me cancel culture is a new form of puritanism. It's the direct consequences of the vanishing of cults and religions. People tend to recreate it through woke culture and community. Plus they can't accept that the person they are following and admiring can make mistakes like anyone else. People especially young people need heroes, mentors that could show them how to behave and think. They expect a Jesus Christ, a messiah. I remember when i was 14, i needed to find a book that would give me all the answers, help me understand all the strong emotions i was feeling everyday, solve all the problems i was struggling with. I was vulnerable, a real "fool of hope", very dangerous then, both for myself and others. I was a ball of anger, i wanted to get revenge and cure what i was taking as unfair and unacceptable. Then, people are very chrono-centered, ethno-centered, etc... Everyone is stuck. Many teens (14-21 years old) can't get out of the jail they built for themselves. They are certain that their perception is the truth because they can't see beyond. When you want to cancel old movies or books (1930's) you are not learning. We learn through mistakes even our ancestors' mistakes. People back then didn't know it was bad or they didn't considered it as bad like we do. We are continuously evolving and growing thanks to past mistakes. And there is a huge diversity among humanity that you can't deny. Being different, you know that's why it's awesome.

People will always fall to herd mentality and tribalism. If you have an opinion that is counter to the group thinks, you get some lable or term thrown at you that may be so far from the truth. Its a way for those to shutdown freespeech and freethink. Negativity is the easiest emotion to have and use towards others, thats why so many fall for the traps and give up and assimilate.

There are so many aspects of this conversation that resonates with me; especially the statement that ‘black women are portrayed as angry by the media.’ A more recent example is the role that black actress Andrene Ward- Hammond plays in the ABC series ‘Manifest,’ which is a 2018 series. Ward-Hammond plays the role of a NYPD captain, which in and of itself requires you to be a strong individual; however, it would appear that in each scene she is angry, loud and boisterous. Why is that we ask, because that is how the media views us. So yea, it doesn’t take a genius to tell you that’s how society will ultimately view us.

My take aways from this video... - communication is difficult. Especially when dealing with different cultures. - people are more complex than a few words posted on the internet. - take the time to understand the other person. Even if you do not like what they are saying. - always be looking for ways to improve yourself.

Honestly, when we looking at actual cancel culture, like the people who legit got canceled (lost careers/etc), Ive never seen someone get canceled that didnt honestly deserve it. Most celebrities that say they got canceled only got widely criticized online like Kanye. People who really got canceled were R. Kelly or that lady who made those disturbing tweets on a flight and found out she lost her job by the time she landed. But actual canceling is extremely rare. Most of what people call canceling is just widespread criticism. Also, her points about cultural relativism (what is the cause of evil/ill intent), has been debunked. The reality is, bad people are bad people. It's not about their environment as much as their characteristics. Extreme trauma doesnt cause serial killers, people who cannot appropriately cope with trauma start their crimes after trauma. That's a big distinction to make. They have studies that show that while having racist parents are more likely to create racist children, that's still a minority of those children. Most of the children in racist households do not become racist. Most people in poverty do not commit crime. So we have to let go of this idea that there is a kind of environment that is responsible for creating malevolence of any kind.

Cancel culture won’t ever reach it’s goal of purging toxic people from social media platforms, because by nature it’s a cannibalistic process. People find someone, dig up their mistakes, create an online mob to screech at them to oblivion then turn and devour someone a part of the very mob they’ve created. People are ADDICTED to this lifestyle. Checking someone’s tweets religiously, looking through everything they’ve ever liked, rallying a group of easily outraged individuals - how much dedication do you have to have to devote so much time to that? They’re always on edge, always anxiously awaiting the next victim because they get off on that adrenaline filled thrill that comes with exercising that much power. The power to make someone lose their job. The power to make someone vanish from social media.
Jonalyn 25 ditë më parë
As a parent I think of it like this, if my child comes to me with a racist idea and I immediately flip going off blah blah blah…That will only make them dig there heals in deeper, they’d be like, “I’m going to die on this hill, I don’t even completely understand this hill but I am dying on it.” But if I do a little detective work, we’re did this idea or joke come from, why they liked this, then explain to them why this is racist, bad, not ok. Then and only then, can we have a conversation and then they see and decide for themselves. Never block anyone into a corner cuz they will double-down, but if after all that, they still don’t agree with me. I am not responsible for the fire I will babtize them with, and a month without social media to get their head in the right.

Murderers and terrorists should be separated from the general cancel culture in use these days when someone is cancelled for something they said years ago - or even weeks ago. Facebook memories can give us insight into how we have changed if we were posting regularly years ago. I have made private some posts that I initially wanted to delete because I felt so embarrassed by past me and what she had to say on certain topics. But I chose to make them private instead of deleting so that each year I am reminded of how far I have come. And that would be a generous and human way of looking at others and their tweets and such from the past. As for murderers and terrorists... well... I'm not sure we need to hold space for their redemption stories. We can be open to shifting our position about them and their involvement in community should we see changes that matter. But violent crimes and the people who do them need to be considered on a different level than speech. I'm ok with Weinstein being cancelled. I'm ok if he rehabilitates but never works in film again.

Someone once said to me "Have a learning spirit." What Ayishat Akanbi said about being wrong reminded me of that. Being wrong about things at various times in my life has helped me learn so much. Sometimes it took a lot of life experiences to make me see my thoughts/actions were so narrow. If we are shamed for getting it wrong without any meaningful life experiences and dialog with people who have lived a different life and have a different perspective we won't learn much.

In a world where everything is disposable and driven by consumerism, the word "trash" is a lot more loaded than just "something you throw away and it's irredeemable". Calling someone "trash" implies you are unable and or unwilling to help them improve, to fix them, to recycle the trash. It's more telling of who you are than of who you say it about. Some old wisdom, "One man's trash is another man's treasure". Maybe we should look at what we call "trash", try to find some value before we dismiss it forever.

Most of this isn't cancel culture. It's accountability. I agree bringing up stuff from 15 years ago is bullshit. But that's not what's mostly happening. That's more an outlier. Most people dont care about that. The people getting canceled these days are repeat offenders or people that need a good wake up call. It's more accountability culture in my opinion.

Preach, I can fix that for you with one sentence. "One man's trash is another man's treasure". There, now whoever is trash to you is a treasure for someone else and no one can be mad at you for that since you don't have to like everyone. Now seriously though, calling people trash is a bit too extreme. It is an opinion though, and I can't tell anyone what or how to think. You do you. Just don't expect to have it fly by everyone without consequences. Some people will respond harshly to being called that whether they understand it is a personal opinion or not.
